Symposium ‘Biodiversity in the Netherlands, one step beyond’

Successful primary school pilot about turtles and ghost nets
Together with partner Herpetofauna, Healthy Seas has set up an awareness and fundraising programme about turtles and the threats they face – mainly focusing on ghost gear. Herpetofauna is a Dutch foundation with the main objective to protect reptiles and amphibians and their immediate environment.
The organizers hope to repeat this programme at many more schools in the future. Full story
ECNC and Lithuanian Government preparing the Second Boreal Natura 2000 Seminar
ECNC representatives met with representatives of the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Lithuania and the National Visitors’ Centre of Protected Areas in Vilnius on 14 April 2016. The goal of this meeting was to discuss the arrangements in preparation for the Second Boreal Natura 2000 Seminar, which will be hosted there by the Lithuanian government at the beginning of October. Odra Delta Nature Park – testing new business models
Mr Kazimierz Rabski, director of Odra Delta Nature Park in Poland, met with representatives of ECNC and Eurosite оn 11 April 2016. ECNC and Eurosite will assist in profiling the Park as a pilot for testing new business models for financing park operations and conservation and restoration activities. Full story

Legambiente (League for the Environment) launched ‘People 4 Soil’ in 2015, a campaign to promote a European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) aimed at introducing specific legislation on soil protection in the EU. The European Commission has announced the 24 finalists of the 2016 Natura 2000 Award. The Jury is currently deciding on the winners of each of the five category awards. The winner of the Citizens’ Award will be chosen by the public. You can cast your vote until 8 May 2016. Full story
11th ALTER-Net Summer School – Biodiversity, ecosystem services and sustainable management of socio-ecosystems
